My cat

The Infamous Glorie.

She adopted us in the stormiest day of 2003 as a tiny tiny kitty. We were walking into the Kingdom Hall and she ran over and sat on my toes. The girls were entranced and begged to keep her. Despite her having no tail! (I think they thought someone had cut it off and they felt sorry for her) I told them that if she was still around after the meeting, she could go home with us. Well during the meeting a tornado swooped by, just missing the hall (we got to see the walls bulge!) and so we had to wait a bit longer to go back outside.

At first she wasn't around, the girls called and called. So I did my unique "come here" call I use for all kinds of animals and out she popped! Straight to my toes! (why she loved my toes I don't know but she STILL wants to sleep on my feet!)

And as they say, the rest is history! She is a great mouser, had two litters of kittens before I saved up enough to get her fixed, and is STILL about half the size of a 'normal' cat. Although this past year, she is getting fat!

And why oh why (or even how) does she always walk exactly where I'm fixing to put my feet!!!????? UGH! I trip over her more than my own feet! and that's saying a lot!

oh yeah, btw, she is laying on top of all my folders that hold my bluebird research data.... yeah I WAS trying to work with it all....

A bit of depression

Ok, be fore warned that this is just me rambling and rambling and rambling....

Lot's has been going on: bin Laden is now "officially" dead; major flooding in areas of the south, much of it near me; deadly tornadoes, again near me; the cancellation of some soap operas (gasp); and tons of other stuff. Let's see, we are still fighting three wars, gas prices are still outrageously high causing a LOT of pain for families, and of course there is still sickness, homelessness, death, etc.

Well crap! How is a person suppose to NOT be depressed in this sick sick sick world?

The corruption in business, corporations, government, is enough to make any sane person weep with despair! Seems very few receive justice anymore.

We are forced to pay taxes which take a huge chunk of our hard earned income; plus all the OTHER taxes we have to pay: sales tax, death tax, inheritance tax, personal tax (we pay this every single year in AR -you pay each year over and over again on what you have, your personal belongings! yeah, sucks!), car tags/drivers licenses, .... have I left any out?

It's a wonder why any of us have any money left over for food, clothing, and shelter.

And then "they" encourage you to get a higher education; but that takes getting grants and student loans! Which opens all kinds of new bins of worms!

And so you try not to think about it all, go with the flow..... don't rock the boat; cause if you DON'T pay all these extortionists, well then you get to go to jail or get hit with huge fines (personally, I could USE a paid vacation with three hots and a cot! I will have to do another post on prisons).

It is all gonna fall apart... and soon. Then we will REALLY be depressed! lol!

Or shall I say: we shall be depressing them???? Yeah I fully expect to see some more revolution going on real soon here. Already many are beginning to revolt -both in other countries and even some here -quietly working their way into a place of 'non-existence' in the eyes of them. I bet that relieves many types of depression! Action usually does.

And that is why ultimately things will have to change. See all that taxation/pressure is building up stress and stress does tend to get to one "tipping points" and then it blows up! It always has. So either they will have to do something to 'relieve the pressure' or the pressure will blow.

I see gas prices dropping the closer we get to election time, just like last time.

I see voters changing their "representatives" with little or no change occurring afterwards - as usual.

I see the poor; yet not the "super poor", just those poor who are too rich to get any gov help - still struggling to make ends meet and get by.

I see the 'super poor' still living off the gov and tax payers (the 'poor').

I see the rich (small business owners) still getting rich and while paying many taxes, struggling to keep their businesses afloat and not being able to keep hiring people, but maybe even still having to lay off even more people.

I see the super rich, many maybe not all, still gobbling up billions of dollars of profit (Exxon made like 6 billion in one quarter???) and using any and all loop holes to NOT pay taxes.

Sometimes I have to wonder the same as another person: just how much money does ONE person need? How much is enough? lol! how dare I even ask that?

How can we, as a country, balance the right to "go be fruitful" (in money and babies) with being individually responsible? Is it being responsible to go make billions at the pain of others? (strictly speaking as someone who it truly hurts to have to pay so much for gas)

so many questions and while there are so many answers, can we as individuals and as a country actually change our mindsets? can we "fix" our country? and what does that mean? what is the fix we are looking for? what do we want our country to look like?

I don't think we can fix our country but I do think we can 'fix' ourselves. I think we can individually become a "good, moral" person. One who lives life with self responsibility, self integrity, and love for our neighbors. And although if EVERYONE was to do this, it WOULD fix our country; not everyone will. Because some people are predators.

What do we as responsible, morally upright people do with dangerous predators?

hmmmmmm.......

searching for a life

I've heard people say "I need to find a life" or "I'm searching for a life" and I've got to wonder 'did you lose yours or something?'

These ones who claim they wander around either literally or psychology; "searching for a life" are not really looking for a life, they are looking for distractions from their life. Think about it, do they ever 'find a life'? no they don't. At least they don't until they actually stop and realize that their life was right there all the time.

Sure we make changes, grow (hopefully), mature (again hopefully), and bring new ideas and people into our lives.... point being: bring INTO our lives.

However our lives are with us all the time. We don't have to 'GO' anywhere to find meaning for our lives, just look inside and decide what kind of person you want to be and if you are that person.

For example, what traits are important to you? Integrity, honest, trustworthiness, kindness, generous, loving, and mild tempered are important to me. These are traits that I like having. Some I've got -some I'm still working on. These traits (and others) are what make my life. I don't have to go to India or Africa or Spain to find who I want to be.

I've found that those who run away from their families to 'find themselves' are really just running away from their families. People who break up from their partners because they 'need time to find themselves' really just no longer want to be with that person. It is just a lie to make themselves feel better.

Never lie to yourself.

If you want to run away go explore the world and leave your troubles behind; at least be honest about it all. Thing is, you need to realize that those troubles won't just disappear, they'll follow you and catch up to you eventually.

I've traveled around this country quite a bit, not gone to all the places I'd like to; but I've tried to be honest about why I go.... at least with myself.

A change of scenery can help one focus on themselves, I'm not saying it won't. But we have to realize that any "finding of who we are" doesn't begin "out there" in begins "in here". In our minds and hearts.

Setting goals and having dreams is great! But they don't make us into who we are, they are expressions of who we are.

We are wonderfully made. We have the ability to reason, dream, achieve, love, and be loved.

So if you think you need to 'go out there' and 'find yourself', remember that going out there is just you trying to distract yourself from who you are. First start inside and become who you want to be, then go out there and express yourself! You'll have a lot more fun that way! And who knows, you may just be able to help someone else realize their inward potential!

A Cup of Tea

Another funny from my mom; gentlemen; dads of daughters -you may want to especially take note of this:

~A Cup of Tea ~

One day my mother was out, and my dad was in charge of me.

I was maybe 2 1/2 years old. Someone had given me a little 'tea set' as a gift, and it was one of my favorite toys.

Daddy was in the living room engrossed in the evening news when I brought him a little cup of 'tea', which was just water. After several cups of tea and lots of praise for such yummy tea, my mom came home.

My dad made her wait in the living room to watch me bring him a cup of tea, because it was 'just the cutest thing!' Mom waited, and sure enough, here I came down the hall with a cup of tea for Daddy; and she watched him drink it up.

Then she said, (as only a mother would know),”Did it ever occur to you that the only place she can reach to get water, is the toilet?"

good info on surviving an earthquake!

EXTRACT FROM DOUG COPP'S ARTICLE ON 'THE TRIANGLE OF LIFE'

My name is Doug Copp. I am the Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of the American Rescue Team International (ARTI), the world's most experienced rescue team. The information in this article could save lives in an earthquake.

I have crawled inside 875 collapsed buildings, worked with rescue teams from 60 countries, founded rescue teams in several countries, and I am a member of many rescue teams from many countries. I was the United Nations expert in Disaster Mitigation for two years, and have worked at every major disaster in the world since 1985, except for simultaneous disasters.

The first building I ever crawled inside of was a school in Mexico City during the 1985 earthquake. Every child was under its desk. Every child was crushed to the thickness of their bones. They could have survived by lying down next to their desks in the aisles. It was obscene -- unnecessary.

Simply stated, when buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings falling upon the objects or furniture inside crushes these objects, leaving a space or void next to them - NOT under them. This space is what I call the 'triangle of life'. The larger the object, the stronger, the less it will compact. The less the object compacts, the larger the void, the greater the probability that the person who is using this void for safety will not be injured. The next time you watch collapsed buildings, on television, count the 'triangles' you see formed. They are everywhere. It is the most common shape, you will see, in a collapsed building.

TIPS FOR EARTHQUAKE SAFETY

1) Most everyone who simply 'ducks and covers' when building collapse are crushed to death. People who get under objects, like desks or cars, are crushed.

2) Cats, dogs and babies often naturally curl up in the fetal position. You should too in an earthquake. It is a natural safety/survival instinct. You can survive in a smaller void. Get next to an object, next to a sofa, next to a bed, next to a large bulky object that will compress slightly but leave a void next to it.

3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in during an earthquake. Wood is flexible and moves with the force of the earthquake. If the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are created. Also, the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight. Brick buildings will break into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but less squashed bodies than concrete slabs.

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can achieve a much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on the back of the door of every room telling occupants to lie down on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.

5) If an earthquake happens and you cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.

6) Most everyone who gets under a doorway when buildings collapse is killed. How? If you stand under a doorway and the doorjamb falls forward or backward you will be crushed by the ceiling above. If the door jam falls sideways you will be cut in half by the doorway. In either case, you will be killed!

7) Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different 'moment of frequency' (they swing separately from the main part of the building). The stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each other until structural failure of the stairs takes place. The people who get on stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads - horribly mutilated. Even if the building doesn't collapse, stay away from the stairs. The stairs are a likely part of the building to be damaged. Even if the stairs are not collapsed by the earthquake, they may collapse later when overloaded by fleeing people. They should always be checked for safety, even when the rest of the building is not damaged.

8) Get near the outer walls of buildings or outside of them if possible - It is much better to be near the outside of the building rather than the interior. The farther inside you are from the outside perimeter of the building the greater the probability that your escape route will be blocked.

9) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above falls in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles; which is exactly what happened with the slabs between the decks of the Nimitz Freeway. The victims of the San Francisco earthquake all stayed inside of their vehicles. They were all killed. They could have easily survived by getting out and sitting or lying next to their vehicles. Everyone killed would have survived if they had been able to get out of their cars and sit or lie next to them. All the crushed cars had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for the cars that had columns fall directly across them.

10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices and other offices with a lot of paper, that paper does not compact. Large voids are found surrounding stacks of paper.

Spread the word and save someone's life...

The entire world is experiencing natural calamities, so be prepared!

'We are but angels with one wing, it takes two to fly'

In 1996 we made a film, which proved my survival methodology to be correct. The Turkish Federal Government, City of Istanbul , University of Istanbul Case Productions and ARTI cooperated to film this practical, scientific test. We collapsed a school and a home with 20 mannequins inside. Ten mannequins did 'duck and cover,' and ten mannequins I used in my 'triangle of life' survival method. After the simulated earthquake collapse we crawled through the rubble and entered the building to film and document the results. The film, in which I practiced my survival techniques under directly observable, scientific conditions , relevant to building collapse, showed there would have been zero percent survival for those doing duck and cover.

There would likely have been 100 percent survivability for people using my method of the 'triangle of life.' This film has been seen by millions of viewers on television in Turkey and the rest of Europe, and it was seen in the USA , Canada and Latin America on the TV program Real TV.

HUGE Rattler!!!

My mom sent me these pictures in an email with some info:

This snake was found Near the St. Augustine outlet, in a new KB homes subdivision just south of Jacksonville FL.

A little research revealed the following:

One bite from a snake of this size would contain enough venom to kill over 40 full grown men.

The head of this snake alone is larger than the hand of a normal sized man.

A bite from those fangs would comparable to being stabbed by two curved, 1/4 inch diameter screwdrivers.

The knife being used to draw out the fangs for the bottom picture has a blade around 4 inches long.

This snake is estimated to have weighed over 170 pounds. (How much do you weigh?)

Notice the girth of this snake as compared to the cop's leg in the first picture (and he is not a small man).

A snake of this size could easily swallow a 2 year-old child (and dogs, pigs, etc).

A snake this size has an approximately 5 1/2 foot accurate striking distance. (The distance for an average size rattlesnake is about 2 feet.)

This snake has probably been alive since George Bush Sr. was President.

Now just ask yourself these questions: What has this snake been feeding on and where are its offspring?

I thought the Catholic Church was AGAINST abortion?

Report reveals multiple links between Catholic colleges and Planned Parenthood

In a 22-page report released yesterday, The Cardinal Newman Society says it found more than 150 “current and past connections” between U.S. Catholic colleges and universities and Planned Parenthood – the nation’s largest abortion provider.

You can READ THE STORY AND FIND THE LINK TO THE STUDY HERE!

I'm a person who believes that abortion is murder and thus would never have one.
